Zip-line adventure

This Spring join us for a zip through the Blue Ridge!


Details for this adventure are still being worked out. I'll be posting more on this soon. For now I can tell you that we plan to do this in late Spring 2010. The zip line is for all ages but has a weight range from 60lbs to 250lbs. There is a pretty good up hill hike involved in this, but the downhill decent is worth it! This will be a great group event, the more the better! So far as I can tell (I still have more research to do) the cost for riding the zip is $15 per person / per ride, we'll probably want to ride twice, but that's up to you. It's located in southwestern VA (about 3 hrs away) and we plan on making this a long day trip. Stay tuned for updates.

Christmas Parade 2009

We all had a great time at the King William girl scouts (3112) annual Christmas parade! Last Sunday, December 6th 2009. Russ Groover provided an awesome sound system for our little W”rappin”n Elves to rock the streets of Mechanicsville. River Pools and Spas provided the trailer and generator, and of course all the troop's parents jumped in to help out with the float decorations.

The girls came out of the gate with bells on, literally! Some were wrapping presents, while the rest were dancing their hearts out. The crowd seemed to come alive as our little elves passed them by. Everyone watching was joining in; the vibe seemed to be contagious! It certainly got me in the Christmas spirit! Somewhere about mid way through the parade I couldn’t help but notice, from my rear view mirror, all of our troops parents that had been walking along behind the float were now dancing too! Russ got a little carried away towards the end though, but I thought to myself, “ It’s OK folks, he’s in a band!” The troop turned it up a notch as we passed the judges booth and pulled out all their best moves! These guys are #1 in my book! What a great time!!

Web Site Launched!

Our Adventurer’s Club site is up and running. It’ll be a work in progress for a while, but there is enough content to get us going. The new site is set up as an information hub for all members, and their friends and family, to read what’s new with the club, as well as, check out the cool pictures of their young adventurers. So pass the word!

We need your input!

All of our adventures are family friendly. Most of them are for all ages. On occasion we might plan a trip that would be difficult for small children. I’ll add a note to the trips that are age specific; otherwise they’ll be for everyone. Inevitably, it will be up to each parent to make the call on their family’s participation.

There will be a new adventure each month. Everyone will be encouraged to come along. Its way more fun with the group, but if you can’t make it we’ll understand. You could have your own family adventure and tell us all about it! Either way, it’s all about spending quality time with our kids and loved ones.

Snow Trip 2010

Snow Day 2010 is coming!

Last years Snow Day was one for the books! Niagara Falls was beautiful with sheets of ice, 3 feet thick, covering the cliff walls. We had done our research and found that just north of Erie, PA had some of the largest snow fall totals of anywhere in the U.S., due largely in part by Lake Erie.

This year’s trip is a bit closer, thankfully! Our destination will be

Elkins West Virginia.

Elkins is a quiet town, and a step back in time, with a population of around 7000. It’s situated firmly between the Monongahela National Forest and the "High Alleghenies". It receives an average annual snowfall of about 77 inches, with 22 of them falling in January. The average temps in January are 39F as a high, and 18F as a low (the record low is -24F). It’s about 5 hours drive from Richmond, VA. 

I’ve actually done this trip before, in January 1996, and I found 4 ½ feet of snow! It was an awesome time and I can’t wait to go back. Lucky me! The wait is over!

We’ll make this a weekend trip, leaving Saturday morning and returning Sunday evening. All the exact details will be worked out at our December meeting. I hope everyone can make it, it’s sure to be another great adventure!

Ty's Dolphin

Ty hanging out on the rocks just after he swam with bottlenose dolphins at Discovery Cove. He wouldn't admit it, but he was very nervous about getting up close and personal with these guys at first. He overcame his fears, swam out in the deep water, and was carried back to mom and dad safely by a dolphin. What an awesome day! He'll never forget this adventure!
